It isn’t a secret that men eclipse women cyclists. When I committed to riding my bike as my main form of transportation, I didn’t need statistics to show me this fact. I could see it everywhere around me. Maybe I started intentionally looking for female cyclists or maybe I just got increasingly frustrated with men on their racing bikes in full spandex speeding past me. ‘Scuse me, are you that excited to get to work?
Even more apparent in the male-dominated cycling world is the feeling I got in a bike shop. Needless to say the female friendly stores popping up are thrilling but still in the vast minority. I even had one man in the biking world say women cyclists are a niche market. Even if he is right, I can still be a proud and devoted rider to this niche with the hopes to grow it into something more.
The GiveLoveCycle accessory line came from my love of cycling. Everyone’s love of cycling and their bike is so different. No one can make me feel like they love their bike or riding more than me, not a professional cyclist, triathlon, not anyone. Have you ever felt deterred from cycling or made to feel your love of riding is less than someone else’s?

Couldn’t agree more! Cycling is male-dominated and considering us a “niche market” only serves to keep it that way.
But that’s why I love GLC (and why the bag is officially on my birthday gift list!!). It’s also why I started my blog (womencyclists.wordpress.com).
We need “female friendly” bike everything (shops, racing, etc) to proliferate so much so that, in 10 years, new women cyclists become shocked to learn that there was ever a time when women were so left out!
